Cantina Leon
About us
At Cantina Leon, a Mexican restaurant in Coral Gables, we open the doors to a living place where food comforts, the toast brings people closer, and the moment gives you a reason to stay. Mexico is not presented here, it is lived. Chef and Co-Owner Gerardo “Gerry” B. De Negri brings the influences of his journey through Mexican, Spanish, and French kitchens, where they come together in a menu that celebrates the country’s rich regional traditions, pairing generational recipes with refined technique and a deep respect for authenticity.
That tradition lives behind the bar kept alive by Miami’s most extensive tequila and mezcal collection, gathered from generations of families who still make their spirits the way their grandfathers did. Slowly. With patience. With reverence. Beside it, the city’s largest selection of Mexican wine and beer, and a list of cocktails poured with the same care. Welcome home, this is your house.
Behind the Experience
If there's a visionary behind Cantina Leon, it's our Chef and Co-Owner, Gerardo ''Gerry'' B. De Negri. Born and raised in Mexico to South American parents, Gerry's path has crossed continents and cuisines, from building a chain of gastro bars in Mexico City, to training in Paris, to opening Spanish, French, and Mexican kitchens of his own. For seventeen years, he has called Miami home. Cantina Leon is the culmination of all of it: generational recipes, a lifetime of craft, and the unmistakable warmth of a Mexican home. Hand-pressed tortillas. Salsas made fresh each morning. Plates that taste the way Mexico remembers them.
At Cantina Leon, every table becomes a meeting point, every dish tells a story, and every moment is intentional. Here, everything is shared: the tables, the stories, the joy. And in that very Mexican way of always making room for one more.
